Join us for the Immigrant Rights Celebration on May 3

Post Date:04/28/2017 3:26 p.m.

What: Immigrant Rights Celebration
When: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017
Where: Whatcom Community College (WCC) - Syre Center
Who: Open to the community. Free admission
Hosted by: Student Life and Development, Student Services and Paralegal Studies at Whatcom Community College, and Center for Law, Diversity and Justice at Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies, Western Washington University. With support from World Issues Forum at Fairhaven College, WWU.

Community members are invited for a celebration and lively discussion of immigrant rights and policy. This is a great opportunity to meet immigration attorneys and community organizations involved in responding to policies that impact the immigrant population.

Hiroshi Motomura, 2017 Guggenheim Fellow and the Susan Westerberg Prager Professor of Law at UCLA School of Law, will lead the keynote introduction for the event. Motomura, local immigration attorney Hannah Stone and college students will participate in a panel discussion to discuss immigrant rights and policy in the current political climate. The panel will be moderated by Stone and Ceci Lopez, director of the Center for Law, Diversity and Justice at Fairhaven College. This panel will be translated into Spanish and ASL. There will be time for questions and answers following the panel.

Dinner items will be available from food truck vendors starting at 5:30 pm and the Mariachi Ensemble will provide entertainment.

This event is open to all who are interested in learning more about immigration rights and policy, as well as how they can get involved in the action to protect immigrant rights. Students are especially encouraged as this will be an excellent networking opportunity for those studying law and policy.

WCC is committed to making its events accessible for those with disabilities. Please contact Access & Disability Services at ADS@whatcom.edu or 360.383.3043 (voice) or 360.255.7182 (VP for Deaf callers).
