Shirley King

For over 25 years Shirley King has worked in cross-cultural exploration. As a university professor, she created and guided programs to the Ecuadoran jungle, the coast of Mexico, and Spain’s interior. She has lived in Washington, Oregon, North Dakota, Arkansas and Alaska, and four foreign countries. She received her undergraduate degree from Portland State University, and M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Washington.    Shirley studied voice and theatre, and has also been instructor of dance, specializing in ballet. Apart from teaching, she has owned a small business, and worked in social services with victims of poverty, homelessness, addictions, violent crime, and migrancy. A Fulbright grant recipient, Dr. King has published on the topics of language, literature and travel. Her hobbies include art and reading, photography, building gardens and landscapes, exploring nature and volunteering.
