Alice B. Acheson is a Book Marketing and Publishing Consultant on publishing and book marketing with 40 years experience, beginning with three major New York publishers and then for numerous publishers and authors as an independent provider since 1981.
Alice has been an editor at a major New York publisher, then publicist at two more, before providing independent book marketing and publishing services as a consultant to publishers and authors. Four recipients of her publicity prowess have appeared simultaneously on The New York Times bestseller list. She is particularly proud of her efforts for Old Turtle, Doug Wood's debut book from a publisher who had never published a children's book nor nationally marketed any of their books. It won the American Booksellers Association Book of the Year and sold 800,000 copies prior to its sale to Scholastic. For her efforts Alice won the Literary Market Place Outside Services Award for Advertising, Promotion, and Publicity. Beginning at the age of 12, she has held several jobs. The titles may be widely divergent, but the link is her joy of being a mentor. That's why she has such an extensive teaching schedule. She loves sharing all she has learned about publishing so that others can be better informed and use the knowledge to their benefit. She lives in Friday Harbor, WA, can be contacted at <email@example.com>, and more information can be found at http://sites.google.com/site/AliceBAcheson.
Alice has a B.A./English from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA and an M.A./Spanish and French from City College of New York. She taught both English and Spanish in High School prior to entering publishing and is still quite fluent in Spanish. She belongs to many professional organizations including Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association, (NY) Publishers Publicity Association, and (California) Book Promotion Forum.
In her spare time, Alice reads a lot, gardens, enjoys all that the San Juan Community Theatre offers including Live in HD performances from the Metropolitan Opera, the Bolshoi Ballet, and the National Theatre from London, England. Undoubtedly, sometime during the class, you will hear references to Alice’s husband, two daughters and a "third daughter," and three grandsons and two more "grandsons." A full and happy life!
