Barbara Bloom is the author of two books of poems, On the Water Meridian and Pulling Down the Heavens, as well as a prose memoir, Steering Home, which describes her family’s experience living on an isolated homestead on the B.C. coast in the 1960s. Three of her poems from On the Water Meridian were read by Garrison Keillor on The Writer’s Almanac.
Barbara holds a B.A. in English from the University of California in Santa Cruz and an M.A. in English and Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. She taught English and creative writing in the Santa Cruz area for forty years, and has always been inspired by the creativity and courage of her students.
During her years of living and working in California, Barbara maintained close ties to the Northwest, returning to the family property in B.C. every summer. A relative newcomer to Bellingham, she has found much to enjoy in its relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Barbara is married with a grown daughter and two teenage grandsons. She loves walking, photography, travel, reading, gardening, and, of course, writing. She welcomes this opportunity to meet and work with writers in the area.
