What re-entry support includes
Misdemeanors and felonies can impact your options and it is good to meet with an advisor who can walk you through your choices. Whatcom Community College is an active supporter of assisting with this transition including mailing paper applications to prisons, working with your support team, and discussing how your record may impact your choices. From the Community Partnership for Transition Solutions county-wide conversations to local WorkSource Fresh Start workshops the College is here to connect you to resources along the way. The College is also a partner with the local Work Release program. Contact your parole or community corrections officer to schedule an appointment with a re-entry specialist about accessing college.

Equity Statement:
The justice system in the United States is an oppressive system toward marginalized groups (e.g. people of color, those in poverty, people with mental illness, those struggling with addiction). The system often punishes illness (mental health, addiction) instead of offering treatment. Within the WCC re-entry services program we strive to identify effective individual support while acknowledging oppressive systems and next steps forward. We encourage restorative justice system reform. We believe that no one is defined by events, they are defined by their responses to those events. We believe society's responses to current events defines us as a nation, and we strive to be part of the voice that addresses everyone with humanity, dignity, and opportunity.
