Workforce Education Funding

Whatcom Community College offers several programs that may be able to provide you with the financial assistance you need to attend college.

In addition to financial aid packages and scholarships available to students, there are a variety of programs designed to provide aid to individuals experiencing specific circumstances.

 Funding Programs

  • Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET): Provides education and training to basic food recipients, preparing them for sustainable employment and economic self-sufficiency. 

  • Opportunity Grant: A state-funded program that can help Washington residents pay for up to 45 credits, including a book stipend. Eligibility is partially determined by your income and partially by what degree you are earning. 

  • WorkFirst: The WorkFirst program at WCC provides funding and services to parents with low incomes. Funding and services support student success and help students reach their employment goals.

  • Worker Retraining: A funding and support program for unemployed individuals who need to retrain for a new career due to a lack of demand for their skills. Worker Retraining can cover some tuition/books, and other items based on student eligibility. 
  • Passport to College: Washington state’s publicly-funded scholarship and support program for students from foster care and those who have experienced unaccompanied homelessness. Through enhanced financial aid and tailored support services, Passport to College helps Passport scholars enroll, persist, and complete their post-secondary programs or apprenticeships.
