Welcome to the Norma Stevens Testing Center. The Testing Center, located in the Phyllis & Charles Self Learning Commons (LRN) room 370, provides a quiet environment for accommodated course exams, faculty make-up exams, GED testing and CASAS placement. Photo ID is required for all testing.
Our center's primary focus is to create a testing environment that helps all students succeed. We offer opportunities for students to take exams in the center when completing those exams in the classroom may not be possible or is a barrier to success. We work with students and faculty to help provide alternative times if you were unable to take an exam in class. We provide a quiet testing space for students with approved accommodations.
Accommodated course exams
We work closely with ADS to ensure that all learners can demonstrate their learning. For some, this means we provide supports to remove barriers that might interfere with assessments. We provide a quiet space for sign language interpreters, adaptive equipment and software, increased test taking time, or distraction-free settings.
If you feel you may qualify for accommodations and have yet to file a request, please contact our Access and Disabilities Services staff for assistance. You may email staff at ADS@whatcom.edu or leave a message at 360-383-3043. Emails and phone messages will be returned within 24-48 hours.
Faculty make-up and course proctoring exams
Whatcom students who have missed a course exam may be able to make up their exam in the Testing Center at their instructor's discretion and request. Students must make advanced arrangements with their instructors, arrive with enough time to complete their exam(s), and bring photo ID. The Testing Center may also provide a course exam for all students over a period of days to a week. Your instructor will inform you if you will take your exam in the center, in class or online. Many exams are given directly by your instructor and not in the center, so please check before your exam date. This is a free service for current WCC students.
Instructors: The Testing Referral form can be accessed by printing this form, obtaining one from faculty support or the Testing Center. Please contact the Testing Center to make advance arrangements if you will be evaluating a class. Test Referral Form
Community proctored exams
The Testing Center offers proctored exams for community members attending other institutions or agencies. There is a $30 community proctored exam fee per test. The proctor fee must be paid to our Cashier’s officer before testing. Our Cashier is in Laidlaw Hall room 141. Please contact the Testing Center to check on availability and information to make your arrangements. We may decline to provide an exam if it exceeds our resources.
For GED registration and information: High School Equivalency Exam
Testers who are age 16-18 will need to create their GED testing account, and then they will need to submit either an Approval to Test Form- obtained from your local school district- or a Notarized Statement for Home Schoolers - for those who were enrolled in a home school program before they can make an appointment to test. Full information can be found under the High School Equivalency Exam link.
