The WASFA is for people who do not file a federal FAFSA application. People who complete a WASFA are applying for state aid. The main reasons to complete a WASFA instead of a FAFSA:
- Immigration status, or student is undocumented
- Undocumented parents or family members do not wish to file a FAFSA
- Defaulted federal loans
- Repayments owed on federal grants
- Inability to provide selective service confirmation
To know if you are eligible, complete the confidential WASFA questionnaire. For more information, definitions, and requirements, please visit the Residency & Citizenship page.
Please Note: Although WASFA and SB 5194 share the same eligibility requirements, they are two different application processes at most colleges, including Whatcom Community College.
