Home MenuInstructor Permission & Waitlist Information
You can request instructor permission when you are seeking to override a prerequisite, request to enroll in a full class, or to register after the third day. You will need to send the instructor an email from your student email account. You can access your student email account through MyWCC. In your email please include your name, ctcLink student ID number, the course title, section, item number, and the reason for your request. You can find the instructor's email in the Faculty & Staff Directory.
1) Override prerequisite: If you don’t have a required prerequisite for a course, but believe you have the skills to be successful in a course, you can ask the instructor to consider an override to the prerequisite requirement. For example, you want to take Introduction to Chemistry that requires completion of intermediate algebra with a grade of C- or better. If you have evidence to show you can be successful in Chemistry without completing the required intermediate algebra course, you can request instructor permission. The instructor will likely ask to see your evidence before deciding if they will approve or deny your request.
2) Enroll in a full course: You may request permission to be added to an already full course as an extra student. Often, faculty cannot grant this request, because the number of students in a class is limited to create a better learning experience for everyone. Usually, instructors will only consider adding extra students once the quarter starts. Note: It is important to get on the waitlist early if you hope to enroll in a full class.
3) Late registration: WCC requires students who register after the third day of the quarter to get instructor permission to add a class to their schedule. Permission to register after the 10th day of the quarter is unlikely.
What is a class waitlist?
Once a class section is full, a waitlist is created for the class. You can add yourself to the waitlist using the online registration process. You are limited to two waitlist sections per quarter. If a seat becomes available before the first day of the quarter, the first student on the waitlist is automatically enrolled. Plus: adding your name to a waitlist lets the college know this course is in demand and the college may be able to add another section.
How will I know if I get into the class?
When a space becomes available prior to the first day of the quarter, the Registration Office registers the first student on the waitlist through an overnight process. The Registration Office will send a notification to your student email account when you are registered in the course. We suggest you monitor your enrollment in your ctcLink account.
What if I don’t want to be on the waitlist anymore?
You can remove yourself from a waitlist through your ctcLink account. Not withdrawing from the waitlist could result in being registered for the class and charged tuition.
Do I need to pay tuition for a waitlist class?
You are not charged tuition until the class is added to your schedule. Tuition due dates are available on the WCC registration calendar.
What options do I have if a space does not become available?
Unfortunately, there is no guarantee you will get into a class from the waitlist even when you are in the number one spot. We recommend you research other course options. Your advisor can help. You can also reach out to the instructor and request an override. Enrollment in the first few days of the quarter can be fluid so it is possible space might suddenly open.
Auto enrollment from the waitlist stops on the first day of the quarter. If you are in the first or second spot on the waitlist and still hope to enroll in the class, follow the instructor permission instructions. Note: Waitlists expire on the 3rd day of the quarter at 5pm.
