Your first step is to APPLY TO WHATCOM COMMUNITY COLLEGE to receive your student ID number and set up your network account.  

APPLY FOR HOUSING BY FOLLOWING THE STEPS BELOW:

• Sign in with your network account information which is your WCC username (ex: jdoe1234) and password.

You will receive a confirmation e-mail when your application has been received.

COMPLETE BACKGROUND CHECK:

Within 72 hours of submitting your application a link from Checkr will be sent to your student e-mail to complete your background check. The link expires after 7 days.

Please be advised that rent costs are averages and rent can be lower or higher depending on location within Bellingham city limits.

Utilities are an estimated average but will vary depending on usage. Internet prices are basic prices for the services. Special promotions, bundles, or added features are not reflected in the costs.

All rooms are single occupancy and designed for one resident. Rooms come furnished with a bed, drawers, desk, chair and closet space.

Kitchen space is shared with suitemates and includes seating, a two burner stove, microwave and a full size refrigerator. The community kitchen and the 4th floor lounge have ovens available.

Furnished living room includes comfortable seating and a smart TV.

Your ID card is your access in to Cedar Hall and your suite. When you arrive at Cedar Hall you will receive your bedroom key and sign documents with Residence Life staff. Family or friends are welcome to help you move in.

The Cashier window is open Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm in Laidlaw. If you are having trouble with your online payment or wish to pay by credit card over by phone, please call 360-383-3363.

You must be paying your balance in full in order to pay online. To make a partial payment visit the cashier window in Laidlaw and specifically say that you are paying for housing.

Terri Thayer (she/her)
Director of Residence Life 

Terri Thayer is an enrolled member of the Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nation. She has a bachelor’s degree in history from Western Washington University and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration and Leadership. Terri has worked in higher education for over 15 years in number of departments. She enjoys cooking, traveling and being creative. Terri loves to laugh!

Terri is excited for the opportunity to work within Cedar Hall and understand the honor it is to build and live on the land originally cared for by the Salish people. She believes that Cedar Hall will continue to practice a legacy of caring and community. Everyone has a unique story and Terri hopes that Cedar Hall will provide residents with the opportunity to live their authentic selves while creating relationships of respect and caring for each other.

Mo Whalen (she/her)
Residence Life Manager 

As part of Bellevue College’s first four-year cohort in 2006, Mo earned her bachelor’s degree in social and behavioral Sciences from Eastern Washington University. After ten years in various roles at Jubilee Women’s Center in Seattle, Mo and her wife, Carol, moved to Lopez Island. Cooking at Vita’s Café and working in the island's K-12 school kitchen made assimilating to island life easy. The Residence Life Coordinator position at WCC drew Mo back to the mainland in 2017.

Mo looks forward to welcoming Whatcom students to Cedar Hall and working to create an inclusive environment rooted in collaboration and respect for all residents, so they may thrive both as students and members of the larger community.

In her free time Mo can be found cooking, playing pickle ball, sailing, camping, and enjoying other outdoor adventures.

Dawson Kamalu-Nako (he/him) 
Residence Life Coordinator

Professional Experience: I have my BA from the University of Western Washington in Political Science and Social Studies. I have worked with K-12 as a para educator back in Spokane, WA and for the last two years I have worked for the Office of Off Campus Living at WWU as the peer lead mentor and then the program manager for the office. Being the oldest of five children I have always been in the role of watching out for and taking care of my siblings and those experiences long with my work experience as a basketball coach, ref, peer lead mentor and program manager at WWU will allow for me to connect with the students that I will be responsible for at all levels and I look forward to growing my experience and those future relationships.

Personal: Being Native Hawaiian is something that I probably wear on my shoulders and is a big part of my identity and I look forward to meeting people of all backgrounds while in this role. When not working I love to play pool, basketball, video games, and watch tv and movies. I'm a huge sports fan as well as a huge movie and history buff.

Skyler Morris (he/him)

Hey, my name is Skyler, and I’m originally from rural South Carolina. After high school, I spent six years serving in the U.S. Army, where I gained a lot of experience in leadership and problem-solving. Now, I’m majoring in cybersecurity and have a strong passion for both technology and history. When I’m not focused on cybersecurity, I love exploring different periods of history and understanding how the past shapes our present. I’m currently working as a Resident Assistant, which gives me the chance to combine my interests in security and historical perspectives while helping out on campus. I’m excited to use what I’m learning to create a secure environment here, and I’m looking forward to connecting with everyone.

Hi, I'm Shay. I grew up on a remote island in the San Juans and visited Bellingham regularly to see family. I finally moved to Bellingham for high school and have lived here ever since. I got my associate's at Whatcom during which time I lived at Cedar Hall. I was inspired to become an RA after being part of the dorm community. I am currently pursuing a bachelor's in psychology at Western.

I like gaming and anime. I've done some cosplay and hope to do more. If you ever want to talk, I would enjoy getting to know you better.

Hi! My name is Ky. I was born in Belleville, Illinois but grew up all over the place, primarily in Illinois and California. I decided to start my college journey at WCC to have a smoother transition into higher education. I'm currently pursuing a degree in Ocean Science, with the goal of becoming a Marine Biologist.In my free time, I enjoy reading, gaming, drawing, and singing. I have an ESA cat named Cheese and I love meeting new people and making new friends, so don't hesitate to say hi!As a Resident Advisor, I'm here to support you and ensure you have a great experience in Cedar Hall. Hi there! My name is Bella, I grew up on Whidbey Island and moved to Bellingham about 3 years ago. I am attending WCC to get my degree in nursing. Shortly after getting my degree, I hope to transfer to Western to get my bachelor’s degree. I have always been really interested in science and helping others. I love traveling, doing crafts, cooking, I also spend the winter months skiing at Baker and Stevens pass, and the summer months you’ll find me swimming at lake Whatcom or cliff jumping at the falls. I always love meeting new people so don’t be afraid to say hi, I can’t wait to get to meet you all!

Zack Bonacorsi (he/him)

Hi, I'm Zack. I grew up in San Diego, California before moving to Washington in late 2019 to be closer to family, since then I've lived all around the Bellingham area. Before working in Cedar Hall, I worked at the Whatcom County Boys & Girls Club and volunteered at various organizations. I graduated high school in June 2024 and I'm currently working towards an Associate of Arts & Sciences in Psychology, I chose this path because I'm interested how the human mind works, and because careers in psychology tend to be focused on helping people in one way or another. I enjoy photography, spending time with animals, traveling, tabletop and video games, world history, movies, and computer science/engineering. When I'm not at work, I'll probably be doing something related to one of these things. At Whatcom, I look forward to meeting new people and working to foster a sense of community in student housing.

Emma Fankhauser (she/her)

Hey, my name is Emma and I was born in Edmonds. I grew up in Arlington starting from grade 4 and graduated there. I finished my AA a year after I graduated high school and then moved across the mountains for my bachelor's at Eastern Washington University. My goal is to complete the rest of my prerequisites at Whatcom Community College and then apply for the nursing program in the spring. I really enjoy playing video games with my friends online. A recent new hobby of mine is cooking. I had a job as a chef for a year while I was away at Eastern, and I really like coming up with new things to make with substitutions. My favorite dishes to cook all belong to Asian and Korean cuisine. I became an RA so that I could learn new and exciting abilities along with creating a new community with new friends. I really look forward to fostering new relationships with the community here.
