As a result of completing the criminal justice program, you should be able to:
- Contrast the roles and responsibilities of the core criminal justice system, including law enforcement, courts, and corrections; understand the workflow from the commission of a crime through to adjudication and rehabilitation.
- Apply constitutional, statutory, case law, and procedural rules to real-world situations; recognize ethical standards and professional responsibilities required in the criminal justice profession; and apply ethical decision-making in various scenarios and understand the consequences of unethical behavior
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills appropriate for the criminal justice field; articulate complex criminal justice concepts and legal rationales clearly, concisely, and professionally to diverse audiences.
- Engage in critical thinking to analyze criminal justice issues, current events, policies, and practices related to law enforcement, courts, and corrections; evaluate existing literature and case studies to propose evidence-based solutions or improvements to current practices within the criminal justice system.
- Discuss cultural diversity and its significance in the criminal justice system; demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with members of the community from various backgrounds; and articulate best practices relating to community policing and law enforcement community relations.
