Nursing Pathways
Notes:
- The core nursing program spans six, full-time quarters beginning each fall or spring, with summer off. Once admitted into the program, you must take nursing core courses in sequence.
- The nursing degree contains prerequisite courses and requirements that must be completed before applying to the core nursing program. Some of these prerequisites must be completed with a grade of B (3.0 GPA) or better.
- Once admitted into the core nursing program, you must take all NURS courses in sequence and maintain a final grade of C in all courses to progress to the next nursing course. Note: a C in nursing courses is 78%. See nursing student handbook for grading and progression policies.
- If you are starting in classes numbered below 100, just add those classes at the beginning of the prerequisite pathway.
Associate in nursing (DTA/MRP) (135 credits)
The purpose of the nursing degree is to educate students to practice professional nursing within varied health care settings in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team, and to assist individuals who are experiencing healthcare problems to progress toward optimal health and wellness. The program prepares students to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
Click below to view the recommended prerequisite and required core class sequences.
Applicants to the core nursing program are required to have completed each of the general education requirements / related instruction courses noted below in the degree template before the application deadline.
Also note that BIOL& 160 (general biology with lab, 5 credits) and PSYC& 100 (general psychology, 5 credits) are prerequisite courses to other courses embedded in the degree.
Planning prerequisite courses can be complicated. Without all the information or a plan, you risk wasting your time and money. After attending an information session schedule an appointment with an academic advisor to help you plan a sequence of courses for your unique circumstances. While the sequence listed below extends over five quarters, prerequisites can be completed within four quarters of study. If you intend to take prerequisite courses somewhere other than WCC, check with an academic advisor about transferability.
CPR Requirements – Nursing students must have a current American Heart Association: Health Care Provider Course CPR certification. No other CPR certification is accepted.
*HUMANITIES must be from at least two disciplines. No more than 5 credits in foreign language at the 100 level and no more than 5 credits in performance/skills courses.
