Recording in the Studio

The studio is equipped with cameras, live multi-input switcher, a variety of backdrops, audio and lighting.

  • The Recording Studio is available during Media Center service hours. A reservation is recommended but not required.  If the space is not it use you may use it.
  • Contact Media Center staff for a pre-production meeting to discuss the goals of your project.
  • Absolutely NO FOOD allowed in the studio or editing rooms. Covered drinks are okay.
  • The Center is not responsible for, and does not provide storage for your electronic files.
  • You can save your work to your student or staff network account but are encouraged to bring your own storage device (USB 3.0 are recommended) to work on projects in the Center.

Recording in the Editing Rooms 

Our editing rooms offer a way to produce high-quality audio recordings for content such as; podcasts, online lectures, interviews, student assignments, small instruments or vocal recording and oral histories.  These spaces allow for editing while listening with speakers or while wearing headphones.  Final audio mix is always best done in the same manner that the audience will listen to your finished piece. If the audience will listen with speakers then you should mix while listening with speakers.

Reserve Equipment

Please bring your Student Orca ID with you. If you have not received yours, go to the office of Student Life and Development in Syre Hall 208 to obtain one.

The borrower is responsible for pick up and return of equipment, as well as for its security while in possession.

Equipment Check Out & Use Policies:

  • Equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis
  • You must complete a checkout/waiver form (see Equipment Checkout Agreement on MyWCC).
  • You must be a current student or employee of the college to checkout equipment.
  • You must present a valid WCC Orca ID.
  • You may only check out one camera  at a time per person.
  • You are financial responsible for equipment checked out to you.
  • Equipment check out is best by appointment and should be scheduled in advance. av@whatcom.edu
  • Requests are contingent upon availability.
  • Save your electronic files onto your own storage device before returning equipment. All memory cards and storage will be deleted when returned. 

Conditions of Use

  • Users must adhere to all WCC rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • Never leave the equipment unattended and handle the equipment with care. Equipment borrowers assume full responsibility for damage, loss or theft, charges for repair and/or replacement at the full replacement cost to the college.

Equipment may be used for academic and/or personal projects, but not paid work. 

Loan Period

Up to 3-day equipment loans on certain gear for students, longer by arrangement.
